Eurovision Song Contest - Fans Club Game (mostly known as "ESCFCG" or "That Indie Contest" by skeptics) is an online song contest started up on Facebook, that over time evolved into an all-web contest.

The first couple of editions were held within Eurovision Facebook community, directly as one of many games for fans. However, ever since 9th edition onward, seeing the contest potential - an independent community was formed. The ties to "Eurovision Song Contest - Fans Club" are however still reflected through the name.

Rules[edit]

The song chosen can be original, found and selected by players themselves, as well as the ones, which previously had taken part in Eurovision Song Contest. After the third edition, due to certain managment reasons, the contest received a "hard reset" - allowing all the songs to take part once more (apart from the winners).

The artist must be born or live in a particular country to represent it, have certain documented connections to it, or have family members coming from there.

The countries are centred on European countries and music, however "the broadcaster zone" is allowed to expand freely by people's desire and demands. Additionally, there's also one Special Guest from outside the broadcaster zone allowed to participate. Also in the 13th edition, the contest's supervisor confirmed that if the special guest (who at the time, was Japan - on of victory contenders) were to win they would be automatically added to the zone.

In two first editions, a winning country from the previous edition, as well as the special guest, were placed automatically in the final. It changed since the 3rd edition; all the countries, despite their status in a certain edition of the contest, have to participate in Semi-finals first. The change was made to ensure everyone would participate in exactly the same fair level. There were attempts to incorporate certain auto-qualification benefits, but it was met with a negative response from the contest's followers every time.

The voting system is the same as the eurovision-like one; each country has a set of points from 1-8, 10 and 12 to give in the Semi-final it participates and in the Grand Final later on. With the 13th edition, the televote was added.

The amount of semifinals is determined by the total number of participants.

Since 4th edition, the host of the contest implemented the Second Chance. It's a survey, which takes place after all Semi-finals. It concerns only countries that finished 11th or 12th in their Semi-finals, failing to qualify. From six countries, the rest of players(their own votes don't count) chooses the songs they'd like to see in the Grand Final. Players can choose as many as they wish, all of 6, or just one. However, only two of them will qualify for the Grand Final and join the rest 30 countries. Only in 4th edition, all non-qualifiers participated in Second Chance and 4 of them qualified for the Final, where altogether 34 songs participated.

Participation[edit]

So far, 86 different countries participated in ESCFCG. The scope of participants in the contest over all of its editions is 38 as a minimum, and 62 as a maximum. The first edition without any debut was Edition 8.
